before the storm

That sounds like a room freshener, maybe, but the sky offered a spectacular show yesterday. As long as I remember, there was always a time when we'd run over to the lake to see a storm roll across Lake Michigan. There were about 7 or 8 other cars there sheltering beholders of nature's cinema. The view is unobstructed, and the sky is so vast.

so rare as a day in June

James Russell Lowell, I believe. "What is so rare as a day in June. Then, if ever, are perfect days ..." (Almost typed James Lovell - as in Apollo 13 - must be the full moon)

It is exquisitely beautiful here. The blue is piercing.

This view is one which the developers say would not be sacrified to the golf course.

Lots of people at the park early today. Many of them are trying to qualify for a program which would then train them for a job, and if they are chosen, they would receive a check every two weeks, and if they obtain a GED, there'd be a bonus - - - but no real job. Another well-meaning sop, perhaps.

Sad what has happened to excess labor in the world. People really don't matter very much.

All the people there this morning were enjoying the scene, running in the dunes and laughing. As the donors intended.
